Iron Construction 2008 Charity Golf Classic
For the fourth consecutive year, Operation: Care and Comfort will be the beneficiary of funds raised in the Iron Construction Charity Golf Classic at beautiful Cinnebar Hills, in San Jose, Calif. This golf tournament features all five military branches, playing in a tournament within the tournament. With
military color guards, an authentic M*A*S*H* tent bar, and even a military piper to pipe in the golfers at sunset, this tournament is truly one of a
kind. All funds raised are used to send holiday care packages to our troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, and conflict regions. For information on how you may

9/11 Remembrance & Patriot Day Ceremony
The Shining Thistle Pipe Band, Montana Supporting Soldiers, and The American Legion Post 2 are hosting Helena’s 7th annual 9/11 Remembrance and Patriot Day Ceremony. This event is held as a way for our community to reflect on the lives lost on Sept. 11, remember those who responded, honor veterans past and present, and renew commitment to freedom and the values of the United States. The event will start at 11:45am on September 11 with a Freedom Walk, which will begin at the north end of the walking mall at 6th Avenue. Members of the MT Firemen’s Association Honor Guard, as well as Military Honor Guards will lead the parade south through the walking mall to Anchor Park.
The public is encouraged to join in the Freedom Walk. Carry an American flag to really show your patriotism. There are approximately 200 Freedom Walks being held across America during the week of September 11. You can learn more about the Freedom Walks at www.americasupportsyou.mil. At 12:00 noon the Shining Thistle Pipe Band will start the 9/11 Ceremony at Anchor Park, next to the Lewis & Clark Library. Civic, Public Service, and Military leaders will speak with regards to the lives that were lost on 9/11/01, our military currently serving our country, and how we can all stand together as a nation. There will be other special presentations as well. The ceremony will last an hour. City buses will pick up and deliver passengers to the event. Contact them the day before to make arrangements. AFSC Sponsor Educational Seminar
ARMED FORCES SUPPORT COALITION (AFSC) announced today that it will sponsor an educational seminar for military families, mental health professionals, educators, pastors, and others. The program will be presented by the Colorado Joint Family Support Assistance Program (JFSAP), which is based in Denver and is a Department of Defense initiative. This event will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2008, from 10am – 2pm (check-in 9:30am) at Sky Ute Casino Conference Center, Highway 172, Ignacio, Colorado, and is open to any interested individuals and/or organizations from the Four Corners area. (Note: Exact time is subject to slight modification.) Attendance is free of charge, and lunch will be provided. Since space is limited, RSVP IS REQUIRED before September 1. 2nd Annual Treat the Troops Bean Bag Tournament
This event will take place at Faith Church, 100 - 81st Avenue, between the times of 10:00am – 2:00pm. “Treats and Letters” is requesting a $25 donation which includes lunch and a t-shirt. Tickets for the tournament are free to active duty American servicemembers as well as those servicemembers who are recently discharged or retired who will be in the Dyer, Indiana area on September 13, 2008. Proceeds from the tournament and jerky sale will help send more care packages to deployed American Troops.

AcademyWomen Hosts 5th Annual Leadership Symposium
The keynote speaker Friday night is Rear Admiral Marsha “Marty” Evans, who is one of the first women to become a flag officer in the Navy and then went on to become the CEO of the Girls Scouts and Red Cross. A panel entitled, “Wisdom from the Ages” will feature the first women to rise to the rank of general officer including Air Force Generals Jeanne Holm and Wilma Vaught, Army Generals Pat Foote and Clara Adams-Ender and CAPT Georgia Sadler. The program will also include the first female Thunderbird pilot, Nicole Malachowski, women who served in the WASPs (Women Air Service Pilots) as well as the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service), and many other trailblazers.
